Let's talk about golf clothing!

Women do not have to wear old "out-dated" unflattering, clothing on the golf course anymore. However…..we do have to be aware of the DRESS CODES. Many women have told me of being highly embarrassed at being told that they were improperly dressed and either could not play, or had to buy an article from the proshop to adhere to the dress code. The game is challenging enough - minimize the risk of falling into this predicament by simply being aware.

Dress Codes
Each golf course may have different dress codes - so the rule is

  1. Check with the golf course or

  2. Dress conservatively following the general rules:

  • Shorts/skirts /skorts - the longer length is better. No minis allowed!

  • Golf tops - collars and/or sleeves - No tank tops

  • Small indiscreet logos

  • No jeans

Clothing manufacturers have tapped into the golf market - there is a large selection of golf clothing available.

Check for the following:

  • Fabric - a knit fabric top will have more stretch and give you freedom to swing the club freely.

  • Pockets - somewhere to put your tees, repair tools, ball markers and ball. You will be more organized with these items close at hand.

  • Pockets should be deep - if not, and you are using a cart, your pockets may empty as you get on and off the cart.

As a new woman golfer - the idea is to "blend/fit in".
If you look like a golfer, you will feel like one and others will think you are!

Additional Tips regarding Equipment

  • Shoes - make sure that your shoes are clean and that the spikes are in good condition.

  • Gloves - once they become tatty, replace them.

  • Golf bag - Clean your bag out several times a season - you'll lighten the load once you get rid of those old candy wrappers, water bottles, and blackened half-eaten bananas!

  • Golf clubs - Keep your clubs organized in your bag. Then it will be easy to quickly pull out the correct club, and also to discover if you are missing a club.

  • Accessories - Regularly replenish your supplies (band-aids, aspirin, sunscreen, tees, etc).
