Let's Speed Up Slow Play!

  1. Leave the tee quickly and proceed smartly down the fairway.

  2. DO NOT TAKE MORE THAN ONE PRACTICE SWING.

  3. Play a provisional ball if you think your ball might be OB or lost outside of a hazard - don't just say "Oh, I think it's OK" - PLAY A PROVISIONAL BALL - IT'S PURPOSE IS TO SPEED UP PLAY.

  4. REMEMBER - IF YOUR BALL IS IN A WATER HAZARD - YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE ANOTHER BALL IF YOU ARE GOING TO TAKE A DROP. PLAY THAT BALL AND THEN RETRIEVE THE ORIGINAL BALL FROM THE WATER HAZARD IF YOU CAN - BELIEVE ME, THIS SPEEDS UP PLAY.

  5. JUST EYEBALL IT!! THERE IS NOTHING IN THE RULES TO SAY THAT THE PLAYER MUST USE AN ACTUAL CLUB FOR MEASURING WHEN DROPPING A BALL FOR RELIEF FROM AN IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTION, WATER HAZARD, OR UNPLAYABLE LIE.

  6. PUTT CONTINUOUSLY (STROKE PLAY).

  7. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE YOUR CLUBS IN FRONT OF THE GREEN - SEE WHERE THE FLAGSTICK IS AND PARK YOUR TROLLEY LEVEL WITH IT IF POSSIBLE - LEAVE THE GREEN BRISKLY.

  8. IF POSSIBLE WORK OUT THE DISTANCE TO THE GREEN OR WHEREVER BEFORE IT IS YOUR TURN TO PLAY - NOT WHEN IT IS YOUR TURN.

  9. KEEP UP WITH THE GROUP IN FRONT - DON'T JUST SAY "BUT WE ARE NOT HOLDING ANYONE UP" - YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOU WILL GET INTO TROUBLE!

  10. IF YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR A LOST BALL - PLEASE LET THE GROUP BEHIND PLAY THROUGH IRRESPECTIVE OF THE NUMBER OF PLAYERS IN THAT GROUP.

Finally, if you are playing a friendly game please try the following to speed up play:

  11. Play ready golf - from tee to green.

  12. Pick up your ball when you have reached your max for the hole - No "this is just for practice" putts.

REMEMBER - YOU SHOULD KEEP IMMEDIATELY BEHIND THE GROUP IN FRONT -NOT IMMEDIATELY IN FRONT OF THE GROUP BEHIND - AND KNOW THE RULES!
