Frequently Asked Questions

Why is golf a good game for women?

Golf is a GREAT game for women! The game is fun, challenging and ideally suited to women's strengths. These strengths include: patience, persistence, problem-solving, decision-making, thoughtfulness, attention to detail, willingness to take instruction and willingness to practice. All these skills are invaluable, not only in daily life but also in golf! "Go for it," girl!

What are the first steps for an aspiring golfer?

  • Browse in a golf store

  • Play Mini-golf

  • Gather information from other golfers

  • What local courses are available to new golfers? (cost and accessibility)

  • Can they recommend a teaching professional?

  • What are their ideas on equipment and clothes?

  • Sign up for lessons!

Where will I get clubs?

Locating equipment need not be a challenge for a novice golfer. There are easy ways to solve this dilemma. For either lessons or a trip to a golf course, a full set of clubs is NOT required.

  • Lessons - you will probably only need one or two clubs. Most likely they can be rented or borrowed at the teaching facility/practice range and the professional will help you.

  • Golf Course - rent or borrow from a friend or a local golf shop. At a minimum you will need a couple of irons and a putter.

When you decide to invest in your own golf clubs, ask the professionals - they will be sensitive to your needs and budget concerns.

What should I wear?

To accommodate swinging a golf club and be comfortable, clothing should be loose fitting or have ample stretch. As a new woman golfer - the idea is to "fit in", not make a fashion statement!

Golf courses may have different "dress codes" - so the rules are:

  • Check with the golf course, or

  • Dress conservatively, following these general rules:

  • Shorts/skirs/skorts - the longer length is better. No minis allowed!

  • Golf tops - collars and/or sleeves - no tank tops!
    Small, discreet logos.

  • No jeans.

  • Pockets - preferably deep - somewhere to put your tees, repair tools, ball markers and ball. You will be more organized with these items close at hand.

If you look like a golfer, you will feel like one
and others will think you are one!
